Museum of the Middle Appalachians

Saltville, VA

The Museum of the Middle Appalachians in Saltville is sponsoring a half-day paleontology camp for children in grades one through six on June 8, 2012.   The children will participate in activities related to the field and lab work of a paleontologist.   Sarah Mullersman, Education Director at the Gray Fossil Site and Museum in Gray, TN, will direct the camp with assistance from volunteers of the Museum of the Middle Appalachians.   The participation fee is $10 per child and includes admission to the Museum.

The camp takes place in the Well Fields research area where the children can observe the scientific work being conducted by Dr. Blaine Schubert, Director of the Gray Fossil Site, and the Paleontology Department at East Tennessee State University.   In order to have age appropriate activities and interests, children who have completed grades one, two, or three will be assigned to a morning session from 9:00 AM to Noon.  Children who have completed grades four, five, or six will be scheduled from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.   Parents are asked to drop off their children at the designated location and time and return for pick-up at the end of their session.

Applications to attend the Paleo Camp can be obtained by calling the Museum of the Middle Appalachians at 276-496-3633 or by e-mail at [email protected].  Each session is limited to 20 campers, therefore early application is recommended to insure participation.
