About the Saltville Valley

Saltville's Palmer Mill Playhouse is committed to the promotion of live theater through community involvement. Performances are staged using volunteer performers and artisans from our own communities. Everyone is invited to participate.

Visiting Saltville and Its Surrounding Area


William King Regional Arts Center, Abingdon, VA  Into the Wilderness: The Settlement of Virginia's Frontier Exhibit, continues through January 6, 2008.  In conjunction with the Jamestown 400th Anniversary celebration, William King Regional Arts Center presents Into the Wilderness: The Settlement of Virginia's Frontier, an exhibition exploring Southwest Virginia's prominence during the colonial era as a crossroads of culture and artistry. Approximately 40 objects tell the story of Virginia's frontier in the 18th and early 19th century, including historic costumes of Native Americans and settlers, maps, illustrations, various weaponry, long rifles and their accoutrements.

 

General Francis Marion Hotel, Marion, VA  The General Francis Marion Hotel is now open for lodging after almost two years of restoration and renovation. This grand old hotel has been reborn with all the comfort, convenience and amenities of a thoroughly modern hotel while retaining the spirited ambience of the 1920s.

 

The Lincoln Theatre, Marion, VA  Located in Historic downtown Marion, and next door to the General Francis Marion Hotel, the Lincoln was originally a movie house built in the 1920s. Today it's been fully restored to host live performances and is one of only three existing Mayan Revival-style theatres in America!

 

Hungry Mother State Park  Located in southwestern Virginia, the park noted for its woodlands and lake. Easily accessible from Interstate 81, this park has folklore and history, swimming, camping, cabin rentals, boat rentals, hiking and the park system�s first conference center, Hemlock Haven.
